Roger Stone, one of President Trump’s oldest and most-trusted advisers, warned that any politician who voted to impeach Donald Trump “will endanger their own life.”

Stone began by taunting members of Congress who were calling for Trump’s impeachment. “Try to impeach him, just try it!,” Stone exclaimed. He then promised that, if Trump was impeached, there would be a violent, armed response.

“You will have a spasm of violence in this country, an insurrection, like you’ve never seen,” he promised. “The people will not stand for impeachment. A politician that votes for it will endanger their own life.”

Toward the end of the interview, Stone claimed he was “not advocating violence.”

Stone has advised Trump for decades. He stepped down from his official position in the campaign in 2015 but remains in regular contact with Trump.

Stone made in his comments in an interview with TMZ, an outlet with close ties to Trump and his inner circle. The online tabloid has quietly emerged as one of the most powerful pro-Trump outlets in America.

Two members of the House of Representatives, Brad Sherman (D-CA) and Al Green (D-TX), filed articles of impeachment in June, citing the Trump’s dismissal of former FBI Director James Comey. Last week another Congressman, Steve Cohen (D-TN) introduced separate articles of impeachment based on his response to white supremacist violence in Charlottesville.  Dozens of others say they are considering impeachment.

A recent poll found 40% of Americans support impeaching Donald Trump.
