Major League Baseball wants its money back, after a recent $5,000 donation to Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS) was revealed.

Popular Information’s Judd Legum, who founded ThinkProgress, spotted the maximum allowed donation to Hyde-Smith from Major League Baseball’s (MLB) PAC in an FEC filing on Saturday.

On Sunday, an MLB spokesperson claimed “the contribution was made in connection with an event that MLB lobbyists were asked to attend.”

Corporations like AT&T, Walmart, and Aetna are fleeing the Mississippi Republican after recent reports that she joked about lynching at a campaign event, was caught advocating for voter suppression, has a long history of supporting the Confederacy, sent her daughter to a school created to bypass integration laws and allow white parents to avoid sending their children to the same schools as Black children, and praised an imaginary GOP senator during a disastrous debate.

Despite all of this, President Donald Trump has endorsed Hyde-Smith and called her an “outstanding person.”

Hyde-Smith faces former Rep. and Agriculture Secretary Mike Espy (D) in Tuesday’s runoff election.
