Man in MAGA hat allegedly attacked another man with a sword after yelling homophobic slurs

Police are looking for security video which could help identify a suspect.

A man wearing a red “Make American Great Again” hat often worn by Trump supporters allegedly attacked an unnamed victim with a sword on Friday, according to authorities in San Francisco.

The man allegedly got into a verbal dispute with another person outside a San Francisco roller skating rink before allegedly drawing a sword and slashing the other across the hand.

One witness, Scott Sweeney, claimed the man in the hat shouted homophobic slurs at him prior to the alleged attack. Sweeney also photographed the aftermath of the alleged incident, which showed a MAGA hat next to bloodstained pavement.

Police are looking for security video which could help identify a suspect, and have asked the public to call investigators with any tips.

Authorities said the incident occurred after the victim tried to take the alleged attacker’s hat.

“I came outside. The guy was cut, he was bleeding like you wouldn’t believe. He was just gushing blood, so we got the first aid kit from inside and tried to stop the bleeding,” another witness, David Miles, told The San Francisco Chronicle. “This is the last thing you think is going to happen. I’m very, very, very concerned. I don’t really know what to think.”

The victim was later treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

An investigation into the matter is ongoing.
