Central Intelligence Agency Director John Brennan is a secret Muslim who brought “known Hamas and Muslim Brotherhood leaders into the government and into advisory positions” — and he’s doing so under President Obama’s protection. President Bill Clinton’s adviser on Islamic affairs was a senior al-Qaeda financier. And American Muslims “do not have a First Amendment right to do anything.”

These are just a few things that John Guandolo, a former FBI agent who left the bureau under questionable circumstances, reportedly believes. And, according to an editorial in the Free Lance-Star Culpeper County Sheriff Scott Jenkins sent 20 deputies and staff members to receive a three-day “counterterrorism” training from Guandolo earlier this week.

As ThinkProgress reported earlier this week, a police academy which previously accredited this training pulled its certification in the wake of complaints from numerous civil rights groups about Guandolo’s views. Moreover, Ibrahim Hooper with the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) told ThinkProgress on Tuesday that he thought no officers would wind up attending Guandolo’s seminar because they had no reason to attend if they wouldn’t receive continuing education credits through the police academy. That prediction, however, does not appear to be accurate

True to form, Guandolo blamed CAIR’s opposition to his seminar on the Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas. Indeed, Guandolo claims that “CAIR is Hamas.”

Even setting aside Guandolo’s Islamophobia and his propensity towards conspiracy theories, he is still an unusual choice to offer training to law enforcement officers given the circumstances of his departure from the FBI. Guandolo reportedly resigned from the FBI in 2008 before investigators could question him regarding allegations that he had “an intimate relationship with a confidential source.
