Minnesota Amendment Would ‘Limit The Status Of Marriage’

Minnesota Secretary of State Mark Ritchie has announced the title for this November’s marriage inequality amendment. It will be called “Limiting the Status of Marriage to Opposite-Sex Couples.” This is a significant change from what the Republican-controlled legislature offered in its original legislation for the measure, which was “Recognition of Marriage Solely Between One Man and One Woman.” Though Gov. Mark Dayton’s (DFL) symbolic veto did not prevent the amendment from advancing to the ballot, it did invalidate the originally chosen title and allow for a more accurate replacement.
