Gov. Phil Bryant (R-MS) joined a lawsuit this week challenging President Obama’s directive that protects DREAM Act-eligible young undocumented immigrants from deportation. Mississippi is the first state to join the suit that Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, who is an informal immigration adviser to Mitt Romney, filed in August on behalf of 10 U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement employees who disagree with the policy. In the spring, Mississippi Republicans tried to push through a harmful immigration bill, but it failed in the state Senate.
