– Chicago’s teachers have gone on strike, after failing to reach an agreement with the district. Among other issues, the teachers want to keep their current level of health benefits and the school district wants to reduce them.

– Per student spending is down in most states this year, according to the Center for Budget and Policy Priorities, as Republicans continue to block the additional federal funding to the states:
