Nebraska City Rejects Nondiscrimination Protections

With a vote of 8–2, the City Council of Grand Island, Nebraska has rejected an ordinance that would have created various nondiscrimination protections for the LGBT community, including in employment, housing, and public business. Councilman Mitch Nickerson said he didn’t want the city to become “gay-friendly” and a local business owner claimed the protections would have “unintended consequences.”
