New York Supreme Court Rules Testing Can Only Account For 20 Percent Of A Teacher’s Grade

The New York Supreme Court ruled in favor of the state’s major teachers’ union as it said that “only 20 percent of teachers’ evaluations can be based on standardized test scores,” according to existing law. The decision comes at a time when many state officials were pushing for testing to be a greater part of teacher evaluation, with Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-NY) advocating for testing to be up to 40 percent of a teacher’s effectiveness rating.
