Paula Deen Is More Popular Than Martin Luther King With Georgia Republicans

Paula Deen has lost millions of dollars and public favor during the fallout of an employee’s race discrimination lawsuit, but according to Public Policy Polling, Deen is more popular than Martin Luther King among Georgia Republicans.

Deen is trying to rehabilitate her image after her racist language and hostile work environment became public, at the very same time she’s attempted to use the Supreme Court ruling on California’s anti-gay law as a shield in court. Despite her disgrace, PPP tweeted Wednesday that Deen maintains a high favorability in her home state:

Other news out of the red state demonstrates that the results should not necessarily be surprising. In 2013, nearly 50 years to the day since King’s March on Washington, students in Wilcox County held their first integrated prom while Georgia State University now has its very own white student union.
