Police Contain A Possible Gunman At A Toledo-Area High School

Early reports from local news outlets suggest that police have been called to Scott High School in Toledo, Ohio after a student was reportedly seen with a gun. The suspect has now been taken into custody, according to the Toledo Police.

During a police standoff at the school this morning, students were told to shelter in place, and some were reportedly taken into closets. According to the Toledo Blade, police negotiators had been called in to try and diffuse the situation.

This is at least the fifth incident with a gun on a school campus in the last two months. In November, three high school students were shot as they exited school grounds outside of Pittsburgh; less than a week later a student was shot and killed on the Lynchburg, Virginia campus of Liberty University; On November 4, Central Connecticut State University was placed on lockdown for most of the day after a gunman was spotted wandering the Hartford-area campus; and in October, a popular teacher was killed and two young boys injured after a middle school student opened fire in a school outside of Reno, Nevada.

The one-year anniversary of the deadly shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut is in less than three weeks.
