Record Heat Wave Broils Los Angeles

Southern California is broiling in temperatures 20 degrees above normal, setting conditions for a devastating outbreak of wildfires. On Wednesday, downtown Los Angeles hit a record 99 degrees, and Long Beach hit a record 102 degrees. “Weather has natural extremes, but these natural extremes are now occurring in an atmosphere that has more heat and moisture in it due to global warming,” Jeff Masters, Weather Underground’s Director of Meteorology told Xinhua via email.
