Republican Filibuster

I think this conceit being pushed by Atrios that “A ‘Republican filibuster’ is mathematically unpossible” is a bit silly. If I said that the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act or the American Clean Energy and Security Act was a “Democratic bill” everyone would know what I was talking about. A filibuster organized by the Republican leadership and overwhelmingly backed by Republican Senators and overwhelmingly opposed by Democratic Senators is properly described as a “Republican filibuster.” The fact that under present circumstances a Republican filibuster can only succeed if it’s joined by a rogue Democrat or two is noteworthy, but doesn’t change the essentials.
