Russian Lawmaker: Children Are Better Off In Orphanage Than With A Gay Parent

Alexei Zhuravlev, deputy of the Russian Duma, is the proponent of a new bill that would disqualify gay parents from maintaining custody of their children. In a new interview, in which he compared Europe to Sodom and Gomorrah, Zhuravlev says that a single mother who’s discovered to be gay should have her children taken away from her because they’d be better off in an orphanage:

ZHURAVLEV: Of course she should definitely be deprived of her rights to the child. Homosexuals must not raise children. They corrupt them. They do them much more harm than if the child were in an orphanage. I am deeply convinced of this.

When he introduced the bill earlier this month, he used the fraudulent Regnerus study to justify its penalties. Zhuravlev, unsurprisingly, was also a chief supporter of the legislation to ban “gay propaganda,” which he has continued to defend.

A new poll found that 51 percent of Russians would not “under any circumstances” tolerate having a gay neighbor or work colleague, but President Vladimir Putin says his country is not homophobic.
