Safe Schools Losing $100 Million In Grant Funding

The budget for Fiscal Year 2011 has excised $100 million from federal grant programs that would support safe and drug-free schools, including for anti-bullying programs that would protect LGBT students. The cut marks a steep decline from money that was available even during the Bush administration:

FY 2009: $690 millionFY 2010: $393 millionFY 2011: $288 million

While previous grantees will continue to receive the remainder of their four-year grants, no new grants will be made this year through either the Safe and Supportive Schools or Safe Schools, Healthy Students programs.
