Slovenians rejected a law that would have allowed same-sex coupled to adopt the biological children of their partners in a national referendum on Sunday. Fifty-five percent voted against the measure, which only turned out 26 percent of voters. The AP notes that despite the setback, Slovenia “is relatively tolerant of homosexuality” and permits “official registration of same-sex relationships.”
