Even debating immigration reform and what to do with the 11 million undocumented immigrants currently in the country is a waste of time, according to Rep. Steve King (R-IA).

“I can’t think of a less-strategically-wise strategy for Republicans than debating immigration for 12 full months on the calendar,” King declared on Mike Huckabee’s radio show Tuesday.

King’s advice? Move on to other issues like Benghazi.

KING: The election last November was not about immigration. […] They will have debated immigration November, December, January, all the way through until next October before anything will come to the floor of the House if anything does. I can’t think of a less-strategically-wise strategy for Republicans than debating immigration for 12 full months on the calendar. I think it’s been a mistake to do that and we should move on with Benghazi, IRS, grow our economy, and get the government out of the way so people can create jobs.

Listen to it:

King’s anti-immigrant rhetoric has plagued the Republican Party for years, which has struggled to improve its appeal to Latino voters. Most recently, he has been criticized for insisting that most DREAMers are actually “drug mules” who have “calves the size of cantaloupes.” When Huckabee asked him about those comments, King dug even further, declaring that it was just like complimenting the bodies of “Olympic athletes.”
