So, I admit I felt some serious trepidation on reading the description of Hey, Hey It’s Esther Blueburger, which scored rather alarmingly on my unnecessary-quirk-o-meter. But the trailer for it is pretty darn charming:
And the movie reminded me of something. Most of the odd and charming (or even uncharming) Jews in the movies these days are men. It’s nice to see a woman (or someone who is almost a woman) get her due. And it’s always a pleasure to see Keisha Castle-Hughes in movies. I worried her career was going to disappear after she had a daughter at 17 (although, lest I sound condemnatory, it sounds like her boyfriend is a stand-up guy, and she’s had support). So I’m glad to see her back, even if the vehicle is uneven.
