SURVEY: 20 Percent Of Gay People In Taiwan Have Attempted Suicide

A new survey finds that nearly 20 percent of gay people in Taiwan “have attempted suicide due to discrimination” and 30 percent “considered taking their own lives.” Fifty-eight percent of respondents also said they had been the “targets of verbal harassment, physical violence and sexual abuse.” Taiwan is generally considered relatively open to gay people, hosting Asia’s biggest gay pride parade, and a mass same-sex wedding.
