Diamond Rings is touring with Robyn this winter, so it’s probably not surprising that I’d like the guy:

I’m still trying to figure out how to articulate what I think about his music, which I think is of a part with both 2AM Club and Ke$ha, sing-songy rather than straight-up singing, but not quite rapping, either. The closest I can come is to say that listening to these kinds of songs feels like eavesdropping on the soundtrack that backs up the performers lives, rather than to a song that might serve as a soundtrack to your own life. In an age when iPods and the internet mean that a lot of us are walking around in our own scored lives all the time, it’s not surprising to me that this odd little pop sub-genre, if it can even be called that, persists.
