From the department of “Nordic issues I don’t really understand,” it seems the government of Sweden next door is organizing a bailout of Swedish auto makers Volvo and Saab. Exept neither of those are really Swedish anymore. Instead, they’re both part of large American firms — Volvo’s part of Ford and Saab’s part of GM. So I don’t really understand how Sweden is supposed to ensure that the money their government spends actually goes to help Swedish people and Swedish operations. Presumably there’s an answer, but the coverage I’ve read has been unclear.
