GOP pollster Frank Luntz made an awkward joke about Bruce Jenner during a focus group at the South Carolina Freedom Summit on Saturday afternoon. The conservative cattle call included speeches from 2016 presidential hopefuls Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Rick Santorum, Scott Walker, and Rick Perry.

While asking wives, daughters or sisters of military servicemembers to stand up for recognition, Luntz noticed that a man with a mustache had also gotten to his feet. The pollster called out the man, who yelled, “I was married to WAC!” or a member of the Women’s Army Corps. The all-female army unites were disbanded in 1978 when female unites were integrated with male unites.

Luntz paused and then quipped, “so was Bruce Jenner!” The comment elicited laughs and boos from the crowd.
