Donald Trump accused Hillary Clinton of having “tremendous hate in her heart” during the presidential debate on Sunday.
“We have a divided nation because of her. Believe me, she has tremendous hate in her heart. When she said deplorables, she meant it. When she said irredeemable, they are irredeemable,” he said. “She has tremendous hatred. This country cannot take another four years of Barack Obama, and that’s what you are getting with her.”
Trump was referring to comments Clinton made at a fundraiser in New York last month, when she called Donald Trump’s supporters as a “basket of deplorables.”
You know, just to be grossly generalistic, you could put half of Trump’s supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables. Right? The racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic — you name it. And unfortunately there are people like that. And he has lifted them up. He has given voice to their websites… He tweets and retweets their offensive hateful mean-spirited rhetoric.
Calling Clinton a hateful person due to her remark about his supporters — which she later said she regretted having said— is interesting, given Trump’s actual hateful rhetoric.
Trump has actually said hateful things about Muslims, women, refugees, immigrants, African Americans, the disabled, veterans, Mexicans, Jews, Native Americans, and the LGBTQ community. This is an incomplete list.
