Trump takes things to logical conclusion, creates ‘real news’ show hosted by his daughter-in-law

An alternate reality.

Last week, President Donald Trump turned the boy scout jamboree into a political rally, criticized his own attorney general on Twitter (multiple times), and announced transgender people will no longer be allowed to serve in the military — and that was all before Wednesday afternoon.

By the end of the week, Trump’s communications director had accused Trump’s chief strategist of autofellatio, the president had encouraged police brutality, the Senate had failed yet again to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, and Trump fired his chief of staff.

Also, North Korea fired missiles at the U.S. just to prove they could.

Lara Trump would like you to know that all of that is fake news.

“I bet you haven’t heard about all the accomplishments the president had this week because there’s so much fake news out there,” Lara, who is married to President Trump’s son Eric Trump, said in a video posted Sunday to Donald Trump’s Facebook page.

In the two and a half minute-long video, Lara Trump praises her father-in-law for donating his second quarter salary of $100,000 to the Department of Education — completely overlooking that Trump’s budget proposal includes a $9.2 billion cut to the department.

“This is a president who is putting America before himself,” she says.

She cites all-time low unemployment numbers and the all-time high stock market — “The economy is booming, ladies and gentlemen” — and lists speeches Trump gave thanking veterans and law enforcement among his accomplishments.

Lara Trump does not mention Attorney General Sessions, the bizarre yacht story the president told to the Boy Scouts, his ban on transgender service members, the chaotic staffing changes, the health care bill, or the missile.

It ends with Trump saying, “I’m Lara Trump, and that is the real news.”

The video is nothing short of propaganda. As Miriam Elder, Buzzfeed News’ world editor, put it, “With each day I have to explain less and less what it was like living in Russia so at least there’s that.”

Lara Trump joins an already long list of Trump family members working for President Trump. Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner serve as advisers to the president. Donald Trump Jr. and Lara’s husband Eric Trump are also two of Trump Sr.’s most important media surrogates, despite saying they would stay out of politics while running the family business.

We’re ThinkProgress, and that is the real news.
