Law enforcement identified the shooter who killed 10 people at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon as 26-year-old Chris Harper Mercer, according to multiple news outlets. At a press conference earlier in the day, Douglas County Sheriff John Hanlin did not identify the shooter, but said he was a male. Authorities confirmed that the shooter died at the scene of the shooting.

Two news organizations confirmed the name of the shooter.

The New York Times reported that authorities said Mercer had three guns in has possession at the time of the shooting, one of them a “long gun.” The rest were reportedly handguns, and it’s not clear if all of them were fired on Thursday.

In a MySpace profile bearing his name, many photos are devoted to the Irish Republican Army.

An 18-year-old student at UCC told the Oregon News Review that the shooter asked students to stand up, state their religion, and then began shooting randomly.

This is a developing story.
