Virginia’s legislature will reconvene on Jan. 12, and the Republicans who control the capitol have already laid out their policy priorities. The Examiner reported last month that pro-gun “Republicans in Virginia said they will press ahead with efforts to undo the state’s gun laws.” Foremost among these are laws preventing Virginians from buying more than one handgun a month and the state’s background check on gun purchases. A recent Quinnipiac University poll found that 62 percent of residents oppose repealing the state’s one-handgun-per-month law.
