Republicans are reaping what they have sown.
On Monday, Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) delivered a brief speech at a Martin Luther King Day event in Spokane, Washington. It did not go well for her.
A few minutes into her speech, a member of the audience yelled “Bullshit!” at McMorris Rodgers. That cry was soon joined by other audience members calling out “Hypocrite!” and “Liar!” Then, the congresswoman was drowned out entirely by people chanting “Save our health care.”
Republicans are moving forward this month with a plan to repeal Obamacare, which would leave millions uninsured, even though the law is currently more popular than it ever has been before.
The crowd’s chants resembled similar tactics by conservative activists during the lead up to the Affordable Care Act’s passage in 2009. Conservative groups, some of them funded by the billionaire Koch brothers, staged protests at Democratic lawmakers’ events, often preventing the lawmaker from speaking over the din.
Now, however, it appears that the chickens have come home to roost.
