Where the Money Goes

Sabina Dawin and Michael Ettlinger have a paper looking at different public spending priorities across the OECD. It includes this chart that nicely summarizes not only which countries spend the most, but what do they spend it on:

The US public sector is larger than the Irish public sector, but the Irish spend more on non-defense stuff and much more on social protections. Iceland spends way more on the “recreation, culture, and religion” category than anyone else.
