While Obama Talks Financial Reform in New York, Senate Republicans Hold Secretive Fundraiser With Wall Street Lobbyists

While Barack Obama was in New York yesterday talking about his agenda to reform Wall Street, Senate Republicans, including Richard Burr, John Cornyn, and George Lemieux held a fundraiser with Wall Street’s lobbyists in DC. My colleagues Lee Fang and Victor Zapanta tried to talk to some of the participants about their views of financial reform legislation, but the vast majority refused to speak or even to identify themselves. One lobbyist explained that it’s “none of your business” which bank lobbyists are having closed-door meetings with key Senators:

Fortunately, thanks to the Sunlight Foundation’s Political Party Time blog we got a glimpse at the invitation so we know the event was hosted by lobbyists Wendy Grubb (Citigroup), Kirsten Chadwick (Zurich Financial Group), Scott Reed, and a few corporate PACs.
